HGTV™ Burgundy Fire™ Weigela - Weigela 'Wings of Fire' PP 21,920
Burgundy Fire™ Weigela was selected in 2000 by Henry Kolster in Boskoop, Netherlands from seedlings derived from open pollination. It has a compact growing habit and wing-like leaves that start green, then turn bronze-red during summer and fiery wine-red in the fall. Colour intensifies with sun exposure. Flowers are sparse, fragrant pink.
Water regularly as needed. Feed in spring with an all purpose fertilizer prior to new spring growth. Prune about 1/3 old stems out each year after blooming. Cutback heavily every few years to rejuvenate and promote strong new growth and flower buds to form for the following year.
