White Catawba Rhododendron - Rhododendron catawbiense 'Album'

Broadly rounded broadleaved evergreen shrub with lilac buds that open to showy white flowers blotched greenish-yellow at the throat. Can have a slight tinge of lilac. An excellent, cold hardy H1 hybrid variety developed in England in 1886.

Prefers moist well drained slightly acidic humus type soils. Can add peat moss, bark mixtures. If in alkaline soils acidify with aluminum sulfate. Water regularly as needed. Feed in spring with an all purpose fertilizer prior to new spring growth. Little pruning is necessary.
